Plymouth Connect-West

Plymouth City Council and Sustrans are improving cycle and walking routes in the south-west of the city

'By providing opportunities to walk and cycle safely and conveniently, this network is improving access for everyone, improving health, and helping address environmental issues.  The project ranges from minor works such as dropped kerbs for those with mobility impairments, through to major new routes, such as the path recently completed through Stonehouse Creek from Richmond Walk to Millbridge.

We are currently seeking views on proposals to formally permit cycling in Victoria Park which will allow the route through Stonehouse Creek to continue into the Park.  This will include:
 The proposals are expected to:
Allowing cycling in the park will also enable the Council to access further Sustrans funding for other improvements such as an improved crossing of Eldad Hill.

Further information can be found at: www.plymouth.gov.uk/connectwest.htm which will be updated as the networkprogresses.

Please submit to me any supporting comments or objections, with reasons, to our proposals to allow cycling in Victoria Park by 3rd February 2012.'

Transport Group

The Transition Transport group was created in 2011 as part of the Transition Plymouth process to reach a sustainable, resilient future.

"Transition Transport aims to encourage public reflection, experience and action on sustainable low carbon transport in Plymouth."

To achieve this we organize open events such as a family cycle ride and picnic; open discussions etc; spread information on sustainable transport as much as we can and support similar initiatives.

We believe each one of us has the responsibility to start making changes in our personal lives, but we also know there is a responsibility in the hands of those who hold the funds to do it in a massive scale.

That is why we  make a friendly but URGENT call for:

The Transport group takes decisions by consensus and meets regularly. Our meetings are open to everyone - come and share your ideas! Please contact Pat:

Life Without the Car

The group is currently planning an event looking at future living without our dependency on cars and oil, and what 'sustainable' transport is. If you would like to be involved in planning or attending please contact us.

The National Trust are planning a cycle trail track around in the Plym Valley. Hundreds of cyclists turned up to show their support on September 7th, whereas others are not so keen. For further information planning documents can be found here/a> with information from the National Trust here and an article from Single Track mountain bike magazine here.
