Transition Discussion

THURSDAY 16th MAY 6.30pm for a 7pm start, Room 210, Roland Levinsky building, Plymouth University. Wheelchair access.

The Transition Movement is our response to the present and future ravages of Climate Change and Peak Oil, and it demands that we rethink and adapt our society ...and our personal lives.
"Inner transition" describes the big changes which need to happen inside ourselves. But this process can be challenging, especially when we face new facts and ideas. What do we need to do? And how we do it together?
Come and share your ideas, proposals and questions about this interesting topic

These will be FREE open public discussions now held on the THIRD THURSDAY of every month. Every discussion will have a facilitator from Transition Plymouth and a different tool to trigger the exchange of opinions e.g. a speaker, a news item, a question, etc.

If you have any suggestion of topics for future discussions, please email: clarehamon@blueyonder.co.uk or colin@trier.org.uk

Contact 01752 772395 or 255088

A report of the March discussion about options after the closure of Plymouth airport can be found here.  Thanks to Kevin Treweeks for this.

Timebank

After our Discussion Group on Non-Money Exchange Transition Plymouth has now joined the Stonehouse Timebank as a group member. Our contact with them has already been great for sharing information and getting involved with workshops and events, so we look forward to seeing what this may lead to in the future. Rag rug workshops

The Talking Rubbish! group has been holding almost free rag rug making workshops. Previously on Thursdays they now take place every Wednesday at the earlier time of 11 am - 1 pm.   They're at the former Ship hostel, an large grey limestone building in East Street, just behind the HQ building in Union Street.  We're working with the Devon and Cornwall Food Association's Community Kitchen Garden and Stonehouse Timebank.  The Time Bank will also be at the Ship on Wednesdays from 10 am - 2 pm.

Contact Barbara for further information

We have just started on a large picnic rug for the Friends of Ham Woods.  There will be a large log in the centre, with smaller squares with pictures of things from the woods,  around this.  All welcome.  Come and make a square for the rug, carry on with your own project or make yet more flowers for Union Street.

Union Street Community Gallery

The gallery opened on 18th March with a well attended walk down Union Street stopping to look at the exhibitions and finishing with a barbeque at the old Ship. The gallery will remain for a while.

Fermenting Workshop

Fermenting workshops will continue to be held every few weeks.  Contact Colin (details below) if you would like to come along.

Once again we will undertake the preparation of a lactic acid salt fermentation with cabbage and other vegetables which I will procure the day before. Also we will look at the use of kefir or yogurt plant to convert milk into a healthy ferment product and I will show you the latest results of experiments in the production of natto and tempeh from soya beans (check out on the tinternet if you want to know more beforehand). The workshop is at my house again as we have not yet found a suitable more public venue: Eggbuckland Rd (just up from Henders Corner). I suggest that we all bring something to share for a lunch which we can enjoy together at the end of our workshop. Green, oolong and rooibos tea will be offered, please feel free to bring others for us to sample if you wish. It is essential that you let me know beforehand if you wish to come so that I can plan things. Ideally text me to confirm on my mobile 07813939366, or phone my landline 01752 249292. Thanks, Colin

Volunteers needed for a sustainable parenting event

The Transition Education group is looking for volunteers to help us to organise a day event about a "Sustainable Vision for Parenting" or "Sustainable Parenting".
The event will be directed at parents and will aim to explore the difficulties and possible solutions for parents interested in a more eco-friendly/sustainable vision for their children's upbringing. It should happen on a Saturday.
Volunteering for this event would mean attending 2 organising meetings with us, some emailing to exchange ideas, and helping on the day. If you have children you can bring them to all of these - snacks included :)

The organization of these events tend to be an enriching experience. If you're interested, please contact: Adriana madrejaguar(at)riseup.net  or phone 01752 22152
